jDiffChaser Features

Actual release, available in download section, includes:

  • Compares same screens of different versions of a java Swing application to highlight regressions
  • Easy actions recording using the remote control
  • Comparisons can ignore zones you can easily select when recording scenario. You select rectangles to ignore using your mouse pointer.
  • Sequential mode on one host: launches production version, plays scenarios, takes a screenshot and then do the same with development version and compares both screen-captures.
  • Parallel mode on two hosts: launches production version on one host, launches development version on another host, then play scenario at the same time on both hosts, captures both screens and compares the resulting screenshots. Useful when testing clients displaying realtime data.
  • Multi-platform
  • No code intrusive, can mostly compare any java application (complex ones may need some dedicated jDiffChaser recorder or player you can code) screens.
  • Automation ready as you can create dedicated ant tasks you schedule
  • Tests suites based
  • Translucent recording remote control to make full-screen scenario recording easier
  • Delayed screenshot to do some actions before the capture (useful, for example, to capture expanded menubars entries on MacOS)
  • Capture either the fullscreen or the only application window
  • Add zones to ignore during comparisons in external files: more flexible way to adapt your tests
  • Open your scenario (or a comparison layer file) to see the zones it ignores
during comparisons, and you can edit this zones set, adding or removing some areas.
  • Locally test a list of scenarios you select (not necessarily a whole test suite nor a whole director content) with the provided default player.
  • You can test an old application you don't have the java code anymore, just use the Frame Identifier to detect which is the frame you need to record actions from.

Here are two little diagrams about jDiffChaser actions either in sequential or parallel mode (click on them for bigger images):
